Talk about a great joke. George Carlin. Richard Pryor. Lenny Bruce. Now we can add the porn industry to the mix of great comedians, mainly Larry Flynt and Joe Francis of Hustler and Girls Gone Wild Fame.

Both men officially released statements asking the U.S. government for a $5 billion bailout much to the amusement of many fans and bloggers alike. Sure, the industry has suffered like all others but it’s still a POWERFUL industry.

While it may seem a little ridiculous, it’s actually rather hilarious that these two porn power players have reached out to the government, especially Larry Flynt who has been a thorn in Uncle Sam’s side during Hustler’s rise.

The best line from this whole charade has to be from Flynt’s mouth, as always, the cosummate entertainer, stating  “Americans can do without cars and such, but they cannot do without sex.” Tell it like it is, Larry!

So what should we make of all this nonsense? Well, you can take it as proof that all industries are suffering through this depression but don’t think pornography is taking as large of a hit as a large amount of other industries.

Strangely, should the porn/erotica industry truly suffer financially, it may be wise for Uncle Sam to turn their attention in that direction. Filthy, immoral and explicit? Sure, but it’s as successful of an industry as it gets.

Believe it or not, the industry rakes in over a billion dollars every year and that contributes to our economy whether you want to accept that or not. Whether you’d work in porn isn’t the point. It creates jobs. Lots of them.

So, while this seems somewhat of a joke on the part of Francis and Flynt, should this industry ever truly fall, we should all show our support of bailing it out.
